About Us

What We Believe

The people of the West Trenton Presbyterian Church believe in God the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. We trace our origins from the early church who witnessed the birth, life, death and resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ.

As a church we do not require any doctrinal claim other than faith in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior. This statement of faith is the most important requirement for church membership.

We hold that the Bible is the inspired Word of God and that all scripture is “useful for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness.” (1 Timothy 3:16) The Bible is an absolutely trustworthy witness that reveals the truth of God to faithful readers and hearers of the Word.

The term “Presbyterian” comes from a Greek word meaning “elder.” In the church elders are elected by the members of the congregation to serve on the church Board which is known as The Session. We also have a Board of Deacons who are elected and ordained to carry out a ministry of caring and compassion.

In worship we gather to offer God praise and glory, hear the Word proclaimed through preaching and the sacraments, be blessed through sacred music, offer ourselves and our prayers to God and experience the fellowship of the church.

We believe in the sacrament of Baptism where we baptize in the name of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit with water. We administer infant baptism. We understand baptism to be a sign and seal of God’s grace in the lives of those whom God has called to be a part of the church. Adult baptisms also are a common occurrence in our church. Call the church office (609) 882-3629 for more information about baptisms.

We celebrate the sacrament of the Lord’s Supper on the first Sunday of the month and on other special occasions. As we do this we gather around the communion table to once again recall the good news of Jesus’ sacrificial death and triumphant resurrection. Through this sacrament we experience the real presence of God in our lives through God’s communion with believers.

We stress the need to grow in the faith through learning more about God.

We join together to serve God and others through our gifts of our time, talents and money.

We enjoy fellowship with others as we live out our lives together as a people of God.

We believe that we have been called by God to be a witness to God’s love and truth as we seek and strive to enjoy our lives as God’s people together.
